While studying in College, joined non-co-operation movement 1920; Secretary, cuttack District Congress Committee 1921-23; Externed from Athagarh by the Political Agent just before the Mahatma's visit to Cuttack during March 1921; Organised District Congress Association at Tirtol 1924; Started agitation on behalf of the fisherman of Kujang against the Maharaja of Bardwan, Zamindar of Kujang 1925-29; Elected to the Bihar and Orissa Legislative Council from the North Cuttack Constituency (Kendrapara and Jajpur subdivision) 1926; Resigned from the Council and joined the Salt Campaign at Kujang; Sentenced for 22 months and imprisoned at Hajaribagh Jail but was released after 10 months 1929-31; Took initiative in giving the Harijans free entrace to the temple of Pareswar at Paradeepgarh 1931; Accompanied Mahatma Gandhi on his Harijan tour 1934; Started extensive Harijan development work 1934-39; Interned at Cuttack 1940-42; Chairman, Kujang Panchayat Samiti 1962-66; Joined Utkal Congress 1971; Elected Deputy Speaker, Orissa Legislative Assembly 1971; Returned to All India National Congress June 1972.
